MESSAGE
FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Elizabeth
Blashka
Delegates'
Meeting
OCSBA's first
meeting of the 2010-11 school year was a well-attended event. We
welcomed new and returning delegates to our county association,
approved the minutes of previous meetings, received our directories and
calendars, and accepted the audit report from our treasurer.
It was decided that OCSBA would host two
dinners during convention. We expect to dine at Hurley's
Restaurant on Friday evening at 7:00 o'clock with a menu price between
$50 and $55 per person. We will make reservations for Saturday
night as well. Please let your delegate know what nights you will
join us for dinner in NYC.
Bill Boss gave a brief overview of NYSSBA's
proposed resolutions. Further discussion will be held during our
October meeting.
Delegates decided to adjust our meeting agenda
for October and invite all legislative candidates for the NYS
Legislature. Incumbents and challengers will be invited to attend
the 10/6 meeting and discuss how they plan to address the dysfuntion in
Albany and provide help and support for our schools. We will keep
you posted on this planned forum.
Attending members also discussed how their
boards evaluate themselves, their goals, and the superintendent of
schools. Our members shared self-evaluation procedures, how they
develop their goals, and instruments/timelines for evaluating the
superintendent. This meeting yielded much positive
discussion and sharing of information among our board members. We
extend thanks to all who helped make this an interesting and
informative meeting.
